SAN SEBASTIAN, SPAIN, “WIRELESS WOLFSBURG”, AND KARLSKRONA, SWEDEN TO PRESENT ON HOW THEIR TROPOS WIRELESS MESH NETWORKS BENEFITS THEIR COMMUNITY
Case Study Presentations and Tropos Reseller Highlights in booth at Wireless and Digital Cities in Barcelona, Spain
BARCELONA, SPAIN – November 11, 2008 -- Tropos® Networks, the market leader in wireless IP broadband mesh networks, today announced that the cities of San Sebastian Spain, Karlskrona Sweden and “Wireless Wolfsburg” Germany, will present case studies on how they are using their Tropos wireless broadband network as a foundation to benefit their communities. The Tropos customer presentations and highlights by the Tropos reseller, KNOSOS-AMPER, in their booth will be given at the third annual Wireless and Digital Cities European Congress in Barcelona, November 12 and 13, 2008.
Dr. Kaus Schaaf from Volkswagen AG, is the project leader for “Wireless Wolfsburg”in Germany. The “Wireless Wolfsburg” network launch was held at the end of October in conjunction with the International Suppliers Fair (IZB). A Volkswagen Tiguan which had been outfitted with a wireless connection to the network, was unveiled to demonstrate mobile Internet access from vehicles to provide vehicle occupants access to local information such as events and cultural attractions, weather, and road conditions. The City of Wolfsburg also has plans to use the network to improve the efficiency of city services.
Dr. Schaaf will present the challenges in developing an effective business model using a citywide wireless broadband infrastructure for a diverse set of applications that benefit communities. He will also discuss approaches to testing a range of applications – from automotive to business over a Tropos wireless broadband network.
From San Sebastian (Spain), Juan Castillo, the head of the Donostia Wireless Project for the City, will discuss their deployment of a wireless broadband foundation for bridging the digital divide, e-learning and e-training.
And on the last day of the conference, Peter Larson, a strategic business consultant for Polypol Strategic ICT in Sweden, will discuss how the City of Karlskrona, Sweden has enhanced its economic development by leveraging its Tropos wireless broadband IP network. He will present benefits the city has derived in its use of the wireless network foundation. In addition he will address drivers for the public utility ownership of the fiber network; the public private partnership business model, and experiences to date.
In addition to these customer presentations, the Barcelona-based reseller, KNOSOS-AMPER of the AMPER Group will feature their systems integration services for building wireless broadband networks using the Tropos 5320 outdoor MetroMesh router.
